Spring Instructional Soccer 2013

Spring Instructional Soccer

The Spring Instructional League will begin it's first games on April 6th! Registration is currently going on. Teams will be formed soon, don't wait too long to register!

The Kirkwood Soccer Club Instructional League Program is designed to teach soccer skills.  Emphasis is placed on learning and enjoyment, not only winning.  Teams of similar age groups are geographically formed and play each other within a KSC sponsored league.  With the belief that participation is the best way to improve soccer skills, club regulations require that each participant play at least half of every game.  Volunteers are always needed and welcomed.  All of our coaches are parent volunteers.  If you are interested in volunteering as a head coach or assistant coach, PLEASE let us know.  We will provide you with the training, literature, and support you need to succeed.

Our Spring League will begin Saturday, April 6 and wrap up in early June. Age groups are 3 to 18 years old. Uniforms are needed beginning with Soccer Tots and older.  A reversible jersey or a complete uniform are offered. Uniforms can be ordered online through a link that will be online using the link on the Instructional Page.

Instructional League Program FAQ

When will I hear from the Coach?

Players will be notified several weeks after registration ends. Please put a home phone number or a number where there is an answering machine. This will make communications by the coach more efficient. NO BEEPER NUMBERS PLEASE!

Do I have to travel to Kirkwood to practice?

No! Kirkwood has teams and practice sites throughout new Castle County - Newark, Bear, New Castle, Wilmington, and  Middletown to name a few. We are not restricted to just the area surrounding the Complex.

When and where to we practice?

The Club does not dictate the time or neighborhood location for practice. Coaches select a neighborhood location and time once they have their roster.   The older teams only have 2 or 3 teams, so the location may not be close. Teams practice an average of twice weekly. All age brackets will play games on Saturdays. Older age groups (U12 and older) may play games with other soccer clubs on area fields.

How are teams formed?

We try to have teams set up geographically with the intent of having practice closer to you, however we can't guarantee that we will have enough coaches in each neighborhood.
Requests for a specific coach cannot be honored. Due to a large number of turnovers of players from season to season, it is impossible to keep teams intact.

What equipment do I need?

Mandatory equipment:
  • KSC reversible shirt or uniform
  • Appropriate size soccer ball
  • Shin guards and socks covering shin guards  must be worn by all players.
  • Soccer shoes or cleats

What size soccer ball should my child use?

Soccer balls vary in size depending upon the age group:
Size#3 Soccer Tots, Kinderkickers, Under 8
Size#4 Under 10 & 12
Size#5 Under 14 & older
Kirkaroos - 3 Year Old Program Is A Hit!

The Kirkaroo program will begin on April 6, 2013.  Players need to be born between 8/1/2009 -7/31/10.  Sessions will be held at 11AM, 12 PM & 1 PM  and  players can choose a time slot when registering for the program.  This program has been a huge "hit" and if you determine the success of the program by the smiles on the player's and parent's faces, it is a BIG success!!

The program focuses on introducing the players and their families to the sport of soccer.  Every week, the parents and the players learn new skills together.  The primary goal is to have fun while learning through games and drills.

In our program, the parents play an integral part.  They are on the field with their child, learning, coaching and cheering at the same time!

Keeping the drills fun and purposeful is the primary focus of our dedicated coaching staff. Our staff is lead by Dave Freeth and other trained staff members.

The next session will begin registration in January for our  spring season.  The league size is limited, so sign up early!
