Purpose
The purpose of the Academy/Elite Team Program is to provide an opportunity for qualified players to compete at a higher level of competition with players of similar abilities. Identification of these players is through a carefully managed tryout process.
Teams are formed by age groups and they usually represent the Kirkwood Soccer Club in the Mid-Atlantic Soccer League (MASL), Baltimore Beltway Soccer League (BBSL), Delco Soccer League, MAPS, PAGS, JAGS and Region 1 Premier League and other Regional Leagues within Region 1.
Information
Each Academy/Elite Team will play approximately 20 league games over the course of the Fall and Spring seasons. Academy/Elite Team play also provides the opportunity for tournament play and cultural exchanges. Teams normally play at least four tournaments each year. An indoor winter season is optional.
Teams in age groups U14 and above are provided the opportunity to travel and play in Europe and Canada. All travel is paid for from personal funds and is supplemented by fund raising efforts. Return visits by overseas teams are encouraged, especially for participation in the KSC Invitational Tournaments.
Under 9, Under 10, Under 11 and Under 12 age groups will play on smaller fields and with fewer players on the field as prescribed by the United States Youth Soccer Association. These small sided games (8 vs 8) will increase the participation and number of touches on the ball for each player, which will help raise his/her level of play. A professional trainer, supplied by Kirkwood, will coach each U-9, U-10, U-11 and U-12 team. There will be an Academy and Elite Team in each of the age groups that will be trained Darek Bujak, Andres Hurtado and staff.
Academy/Elite Team Registration Fees
Players that make a team will have a registration fee which covers the period from July 1 through June30. This fee covers DYSA registration, leagues, referees, professional coaches, uniforms (every two years), home games, scrimmages, field maintenance, the Delaware State Cup (ages U12 and above), a (one) KSC tournament and insurance costs.
Coaches
Annually, the Coach Selection Committee reviews the credentials and qualifications of all applicants for KSC Academy/Elite Team coaching positions. Recommendations are made by the Coach Selection Committee to the KSC Board of Directors. Upon approval, coaches are appointed for the period of one year. Each Academy/Elite Team coach must have a State "D" license or its equivalent. Thirteen of our coaches have National "C" licenses or better. The Club strongly encourages coaching development by funding all licensing courses and coaching literature. If you want to be a coach, the Club will support you with instructions, literature and encouragement.
