The Following Age Groups have REVISED tryout dates and times due to the inclement weather cancellations:

Girls Pre-Academy; Girls U9; Girls U10; Girls U11; Girls U12; Boys U10; Boys U12

The revised tryout dates are listed in the table above.

Here are a few details about our Academy:

Purpose

The purpose of the Academy Team Program is to provide an opportunity for qualified players to train and compete at a higher level of competition with players of similar abilities. Identification of these players is through a carefully managed tryout process.

Teams are formed by age groups and they usually represent the Kirkwood Soccer Club in the Mid-Atlantic Soccer League (MASL),  Baltimore Beltway Soccer League (BBSL), Delco Soccer League, MAPS, PAGS, JAGS and Region 1 Premier League and other Regional Leagues within Region 1.

Information

Each Academy Team will play approximately 16 league games over the course of the Fall and Spring seasons. Academy Team play also provides the opportunity for tournament play and cultural exchanges. Teams normally play at least three tournaments each year and an indoor winter season

Teams in age groups U14  are provided the opportunity to travel and play abroad. All travel is paid for from personal funds and is supplemented by fund raising efforts. Return visits by overseas teams are encouraged, especially for participation in the KSC Invitational Tournaments.

Under 9, Under 10, Under 11 and Under 12 age groups will play on smaller fields and with fewer players on the field as prescribed by the United States Youth Soccer Association. These small sided games (8 vs 8) will increase the participation and number of touches on the ball for each player, which will help raise his/her level of play. A professional trainer, supplied by Kirkwood, will coach each of our Academy Teams.

Academy Team Registration Fees

Players that make a team will have a registration fee which covers the period from July 1 through June30. This fee covers DYSA registration, leagues, referees, professional coaches, uniforms (every two years), home games, scrimmages, field maintenance, the Delaware State Cup (ages U12 and above), a (one) KSC tournament and  insurance costs. The U11’s through U14 train in the Fall and the Spring with Peter Nowak on their third practice night. The U15 and 16’s train only one season with coach Nowak.

Our fees for 2014/2015 are as follows:

Pre-Academy       $300
Under 9                 $650

Under 10               $950

Under 11 – 14      $1300

Under 15 & 16      $1100

Under 17 & 18      $900

Coaches

Annually, the Coach Selection Committee reviews the credentials and qualifications of all applicants for KSC Academy Team coaching positions. Recommendations are made by the Coach Selection Committee. Upon approval, coaches are appointed for the period of one year. Each Academy Team coach must have a State "D" license or its equivalent.  Most of our coaches have National "C" license or better. The Club strongly encourages coaching development by funding all licensing courses and coaching literature. If you want to be a coach, the Club will support you with instructions, literature and encouragement.

Pre-Academy

The 2013 - 2014 Pre-Academy Program will begin in September on Friday nights.

The program is coached by Darek Bujak (Coach Buji) and Andres Hurtado (Coach Dres).

This program is focused on developing players, ages 6, 7, & 8, and preparing them for participating on our Academy teams as they approach age 9.

During the Winter months, the Pre-Academy will participate in the Winter Indoor Competitive League in the U9 division.
In the Spring, they will start training again on Friday nights.

Pre-Academy players are encouraged to participate in the Kirkwood Fall and Spring Instructional leagues.

academy / elite Team Program FAQ

Academy/Elite Team Program FAQ

Do all players have to try out to be on a Academy/Elite Team?

Any player who wishes to participate in the Academy/Elite Team program must try out each year even if they are already on a Kirkwood Academy/Elite Team. Tryouts are held after the spring season for the following year.

When will I hear from the Coach?

Players are usually notified of their tryout results within 48 hours after the tryout process is complete. Registration for tryouts can be completed by logging into your account.  If you do not have an account, you can register your child by clicking "login" in the upper right hand corner of this page.  Create an account for yourself and add your child as a participant.

When and where are practices?

The Club does not dictate the time or neighborhood location  for practice. The Coach will select a neighborhood location and time once he/she has the roster. Teams practice an average of twice per week.

When are games usually played?

Most games are on Saturday or Sunday afternoons either at the Kirkwood Complex or other Club/League Fields. Most Academy/Elite Teams travel twice a year to away tournaments on major holiday weekends, such as Labor Day and Memorial Day.

Do I have to give up other sports to play on an Academy/Elite Team?

No, you do not have to give up other sports if you make the Academy/Elite Team.

Can Academy/Elite Team players participate in the Instructional League?

Academy/Elite Team players may chose to play in the Instructional League with the approval of the Instructional League Director.
