The Kirkwood Soccer Club has actively pursued the Latino community to participate in our soccer programs. Since 2009, KSC has reached out to many children from the city of Wilmington especially the Latino Community.
Our first season of structured play in the Urban Soccer League began in the Fall of 2009 with 125 players. In our second season of structured play, the Urban Soccer League experienced a growth in participants to 354 children ranging from 7 to 16 years old.
Our philosophy is to continue our club's outreach and promotion of the game of soccer in a structured way to the Latino community as we have done at our club for the past 35 years. This includes education for parents, coaches and referees taught in Spanish. In the Fall of 2009, we trained and certified 12 referees through the Delaware Referee Association. In the spring of 2010, we trained 50 coaches and certify them with the US Youth Soccer “F” coaching certificate. We will encourage these coaches to continue their training and acquire their “E” licenses.
