Kirkwood Soccer Club Announcing Tryout/ID Re-Structure

What are the changes this coming season?

The following changes will take place for the upcoming tryout/ID nights:

  • In place of a mass tryout sessions, Kirkwood will offer current players an opportunity of a guaranteed spot with a KSC club team so that children who are currently with Kirkwood Soccer Club are welcome back to continue to enjoy the game and established bonds of friendship
  • Each player will discuss plans with their age group coach each Spring and receive feedback
  • ID nights will be held to welcome new players that may be looking to join Kirkwood’s soccer programs

The re-structuring of the tryout process is being implemented in order to focus player selection and team placement on the individual player’s performance and commitment during the previous season/year, while also providing opportunities to better welcome new players/families into the club with a more relaxed and fun approach.

This will be done in four parts:

  1. The day-to-day work that a player is putting into his/her KSC team
  2. The KSC ‘Player Pathway’ training program, which gives KSC players who are doing well within their current team environment, an opportunity to practice ‘up’ or guest with a KSC team that is considered a higher level (age group coaches will discuss such players)
  3. Talent ID dates will be posted on our web-site for new player who may potentially play for KSC
  4. Players will be continuously evaluated within Kirkwood for opportunities to be identified for DEFC teams and the scouting network of the Philadelphia Union with whom we have now established expanded relationships

Notes from Kirkwood’s Director of Coaching, Ian Hennessy:

“KSC’s role in the community is to provide an environment where children are free to concentrate on keeping the game fun to enjoy with their friends year over year. A KSC player’s entire body of work during their previous season with our club is a far more valuable evaluation tool than a one or two-day tryout.”

“There is a new spirit of co-operation between clubs in the state of Delaware, driven by the formation of DEFC. If a player wishes to leave KSC we are happy to help land that child in an environment that better suits them at another club. In order to replace those players, we will look to add others based on our ID night evaluations by the coaching staffs, specifically, the individual player’s age group coach. Through these tools, I am confident that we will have enough information to form the next group of teams.  I also think that by selecting the teams and freeing players from the instability of annual club-wide tryouts, the entire Delaware club-wide tryout system will be improved and will be more effective.”

All players will be required to contact age group coach’s or the KSC office through our web site for the appropriate Talent ID Night / Tryout.  Dates will be communicated via our Website as well as directly through coaches.
